Unit 1: Culminating Task

[We've reviewed this in class and sharing it with our supporters was homework on Monday night, however, here's a bit more information!]

As we experienced earlier this school year natural disasters occur anywhere at any time.  You’ve been hired by a major news agency and are expected to report about the unfolding events.  You will work collaboratively with colleagues to research major earthquakes, hurricanes and volcanoes that have impacted the world since 1990.  As a breaking news reporter for CNN or the Weather Channel you will be expected to create a 10 – 15 minute presentation that includes a visual representation and presentation.

You must include:
  •          Map with specific location
  •          Date of disaster
  •          Comparison to 2 other similar events – 1 domestic and 1 international
  •          3 – 5 suggestions for others who may be impacted by a similar type of natural disaster
  •          An examination of historical trends of your natural disaster and the likelihood of a similar event to happen in the same place.
  •          Within your group 1 student must take the role of (whichever is applicable)
o   a geologist  and research the causes and effects of earthquakes and volcanoes
o    a meteorologist will research the causes and effects of hurricanes.
